For the less mobile and elderly who may sit for many hours in the day
If you spend long hours sitting, it's important to get up and move around regularly. Whether sitting or standing trying to keep upright is helpful. If it's difficult to get up I recommend doing exercises in your chair such as squeezing your bottom muscles, moving your arms and legs regularly and pumping your ankles, all of which help with circulation and flexibility. If you're not sure which stretches you need it’s certainly worth asking for advice to find out.
Try not to fall asleep in the chair or spend long hours reading the paper or looking down at a puzzle, etc. If you need to put your feet up try to make sure you keep your head up too as this will help to reduce neck and shoulder pains.
