A great deal of manual work requires repetition such as bending, twisting and reaching often in confined or awkward spaces or with a heavy load. All these components are known causes of problems for backs and other aches and pains.
Taking regular breaks, varying the activity/task, using good manual handling skills, ensuring you are fit to do the work, maintaining your spinal curves and using your core muscles are all key to limiting problems. Strengthening any weak muscles and following a suitable stretching program for any tight ones is also helpful.
If you need guidance on which muscles you need to stretch it’s worth having an assessment done by a physio to identify them.
